review 1: This is a book which informs as it entertains. The descriptions of life in the Ukrainian immigrant community and in Kiev are excellent. Stelmach writes these in such a way that you feel that you are really there. I did actually work out the ending long before the end. I must admit that part of my enjoyment was comparing life, as described, in Ukraine with those in Neighbouring Romania, where I lived for a while.An enjoyable read with a believable plot and interesting characters.
review 2: A globe-trotting thriller / adventure story. The setting helped to elevate the material - the Chernobyl details were the best part and had the most veracity. The central antagonist Victor is also great. The book moves well, especially once the action heats up. The protagonists... more are a little flat and underdeveloped, and the book frequently references a prior caper - perhaps the author is planning to write a prequel in addition to the sequel. less
