review 1: An important read for doctors and patients alike. Whereas at times far too much time is spent on the writer self congratulating himself on not being like those other doctors, there is still a lot of good and though provoking information here. As a DVM most of it is far from foreign to me but I struggle with getting my own family to ask the right questions. To the uneducated I worry that this will be a little scary, but I think a little fear and caution in allowing someone to throw treatment at you is a good thing.
review 2: I loved this book. (Well, as much as I could possibly love a book that made me so thoroughly angry at the same time!!) A couple of important themes: -The treatment your doctor gives you might not be the best healthcare you can receive. It
... more might not jibe with what the literature says. It might be just to make them money, or it might be because they're not well-informed. Either way.. doing your own research is pretty critical.-People don't seem to realize how harmful (or, best case scenario, simply pointless) over-treatment can be. This book addresses that. -Screening for disease? Not always that great. (But sometimes perfectly fine.)I loved the scientific/analytical bent of this book, even though it was actually pretty casual. A very informative, well-written read. less
