review 1: I started reading Creative You hoping to get it to tell me "Your passion is gardening" or "Your life will be fulfilled by painting." Looking back I'm surprised I didn't realize I was expecting too much. But the book does something a lot better: it shows you how your personality drives why you do things. I'm still skeptical of the application of the MBTI, but it's still closer to true than randomly guessing. And if you're randomly guessing at what you would enjoy doing then you should definitely read this. Creative You gives a lot of food for thought to get you started on what you would enjoy doing and the particular part of it you can focus on that is the why of why it makes you happy.
review 2: The first thing I did when I opened up my copy of Creative You was
... more to scroll through the table of contents to get right down to business. I like to fancy myself as a creative type with a slight obsessive compulsive bent, so if there was even the slightest chance of my having some undiscovered creativity lurking in my DNA somewhere, I needed to find it.Chapter Two helped me determine that I was the ESFP type - the Entertainer (this little discovery made me giddy). Next I went to Part Two: The Sixteen Creative Types to see what this meant for me in terms of creativity. Expecting a tidy little answer I was ready to disagree with, I instead found in-depth information that was amazingly on target. The following excerpt fits me perfectly:"What SPs create is excitement! And they are vastly different from SJs. For SJs, going to see lions and tigers at the zoo is enough adventure, but SPs are a completely different animal. As Dr. Seuss wrote, 'You see things like these in just any old zoo. They're awfully old-fashioned. I want something new.'"After leafing through several of the other combinations, I realized a more in-depth read was definitely in order. Not only do did I feel that learning what works for my personality type would be useful; learning what doesn't work for me would be just as useful as well! The authors wrap this up nicely with some great tips on how to apply the information in all aspects of your life in Part Three: Cultivating Courageous Creativity. Overall, a great book if you're looking for some insight on the creative process and how it applies to you. less
