review 1: A respectable sequel, neither worse nor better than the first novel, but still just a read-and-forget thriller. What Laukkanen can do well is to build an original and interesting story, even though his characters are rather flat and sometimes behave so stupidly you feel like slapping them. His style remains quite unimaginative (why is he so obsessed with people looking at each other? There is a page where X looks at Y and vice versa at least eight times) but that can be disguised with lots of action served in very short chapters.
review 2: I tried the first novel in this series (The Professionals) but was unable to finish it -- not really very well-written and character development was lacking. Seemed OK for a first novel and I hoped the next in the series woul... mored be better. But... this next one was no better. The author has good ideas for stories but fails to execute them. The characters are not believable and the plots get bogged down. less
