review 1: It wasn't the first book I read about the hardships of that era of Iran's bloody history weather it was a memoir or a fiction, the other books narrated how the lives of their characters were affected and shaped by the years of war, fear, executions and separation , they expressed a certain political opinion towards the Shah's fallen regime or the Islamists , condemning or praisingBut this book was all about Massoumeh herself more than her life shaped by Iran's political transformations, I didn't like almost all of the characters in the book except for Parvaneh, I hated Massoumeh's fanatic brothers, her whining nagging character I didn't like that typical storyline where she united with her lost love after like forty years , she widowed and he separated like a low productio... moren movie, and to make it more typical and annoying she just give her youth dream up the one she tried to kill herself over for no logical reasons, real life just doesn't work like that, real life doesn't offer such chances. I can't see why this book was banned in Iran, a book like " children of the jacaranda tree" can have such banning or " things I have been silent about " but not this book that was more of a life story than a nation story. I didn't find it good because I started reading it with different expectations than it has offered to me, I had hard time finishing it.., unlike children of the jacaranda tree which was hard to read because of the emotional burden it imposed, this one was sometimes too boring.
review 2: O carte foarte buna, am citit-o cu sufletul la gura! M-a impresionat povestea si puterea acestor femei musulmane de a indura si a lupta pentru familie...si uneori chiar de a renunta la marea/prima dragoste pentru a pastra pacea si linistea in familie. Desi unii ar vedea-o ca o viata plina de renuntari, totusi ele reusesc sa-si gaseasca echilibrul interior in lucruri minore, care sa le aduca bucurie in suflet. less
