review 1: Although this wasn't the most amazing book I've ever read, I really liked it! The main character, Will, is a fourteen-year-old boy who's already got a sad past, but in spite of his predicament he just gets on with life and you can't help but like him for that. I loved the fact that it was set in the 14th century, because I haven't read any books set in that time period. The author had obviously done her research, so it the details of the time period really brought it to life! I loved the supporting characters too, especially Brother Walter and Brother Snail, and even Shadlock grew on me. The climax was a little bit disappointing, but the build up to it was good and the multiple twists in the plot at the end of the book really sold it for me! I will definitely get the seque... morel from the library. After the last plot twist, I think Will's life at the abbey is going to get very interesting...
review 2: First of all if you are easily scared read this book because it isn't as scary as the second. This is a nice book and I like it. Will lives with the monks because his family died and in the woods one day getting wood (he's a servant at the abbey, for the work he does they let him stay there) when he sees a hobgoblin hob for short. He helps the hob het out of his trap that he is in and finds out he can see creatures like hobs. He takes the hob to brother snail (one of the nice monks) and he heals the hob. They then name the hob brother Walter. Soon after the monks are acting all weird, will then learns that a rich man named mister bone wants to stay at the abbey for money and the monks really need money. He just have a reason to stay at the poor abbey so soon will finds out. What does Jacobus Bone want? Why are the monks acting so weird? We'll read this book to find out. less
