review 1: A stellar book. The author makes it look so simple, but this is a complex, poignant story with multiple layers and breathtaking surprises. I found that I had to question my assumptions as many times as the main character did. This novel, with its cast of multicultural is a perfect example of how to include diversity in your work. The race of the characters is vital to the plot, but yet it's not a book about race. Highly recommended - but keep a hankie handy for the final scenes.
