review 1: Really, really bad. Does this author have any concept of the military? Almost none of it was accurate. You don't retire with benefits at 13 years. Tanks don't carry passengers, and if they did, SEALs would not use them for insertions (tanks are not too stealthy). The protagonist's "amazing" sniper shots are done by soldiers every day at the rifle range, and his huge death-defying leap into the water is done by every sailor at boot camp. This mistakes are rampant, and the implausibilities just keep on coming. Even the core problem with the French missile is that it burns. Well, almost all anti0tank weapons burn. That is how they work. The protagonist is a thug, not the hero the authors tries to paint him to be. And even if I am a conservative, the right-wing rants we... morere so pervasive and continual that I was turned away. This was just a bad, bad book.
review 2: Lieutenant Commander Mackenzie Bedford from SEAL Team 10 faces a Court-Martial for the killing of 12 Iraqi insurgents as they were surrendering or allegedly on the Euphrates bridge, in Central Iraq. After Mack witnesses the death of his close friends by an illegal missile 'Diamondhead', he gets into a rage and avenges their murder. He is not charged with murder but he has to step down from his commanding post and never again to serve as commander. He leaves the Navy SEAL's and goes home to Dartford, Maine. At home his 7 year old son Tommy is tragically ill. In order to survive he will need a complete bone marrow transplant which can only be done in Switzerland and will cost one million dollars. This subplot story will pull at your heart strings. The shipyard that employees a lot of people in Dartford is in trouble as the French are pulling their frigate order, which has kept this shipyard in business for many years. The owner Harry Remson wants to have the man behind this assassinated. After Mack sees the picture of this man, the same man he had spotted with the Iraqi's on the side of the Euphrates river. A candidate for next president of France and also the manufacturer of the missile 'Diamondhead'. This is what has him agreeing to become the assassin, plus he will get the money to save Tommy's life. The journey to France and Mack subsequent escape have to be the high light of this story. This story might be a bit far fetched but to me I enjoyed it and it even had its moments of witty humour. You might ask the question how could a SEAL rationalize the killing of a head of state, but then again if it was sanction by the USA President, not many people would bat an eyelid. I say this because their is no view on the politics or what the US Agencies or Military Forces are doing to stop or find out about this illegal missile, and if you read a lot of Thrillers, you no doubt will know that they are working towards something like Mack carried out. less
