review 1: This is another book by the same writing/illustrating team as The Animal Hedge and also gets a pass for being a little bit sappy at times. An Italian grandfather recounts his family's emigration to his granddaughter through the items he kept stored in old matchboxes. The artwork depicting the grandfather's memories is endearing and conveys the emotion of his family's story. It may inspire people to start their own collection.
review 2: Great-grandpa was unable to read and write when he was a child, so his diary was a cigar box full of matchboxes, each containing a token which represented a time in his life.
