review 1: So far, This book is going to be tough. It is about a High school drop out, and a straight A student falling in love over a dog. Mack Is a 15 year old boy who considers himself a working man. He doesn't like reading textbooks, or sitting still and learning. He has a dream, of earning enough money working at Vic's Too, a restaurant, to move to Texas and buy his own land. I have not met Cece, the Straight A student. So far, all I know is they fall in love, and Mack makes a horrible mistake106 days after they started dating. I'm guessing that he either kills someone, or impregnates another girl. In the prologue, it mentions that Cece still loves him after the mistake, but she can't for much longer. I can tell that this book is going to tug on my heart strings. Read with cauti... moreon of strong language and sexual content. I would recommend this book, because it looks into the life of two completely different people. You all have known someone like Mack or Cece. Someone like them might even be your friend. It shows the trouble and hardships of a young love life. It's very interesting.I'm farther in now, and everything has gone haywire! He killed somebody, is in jail, and he won't let cece come see him!! so discouraging and sad...
review 2: This was a really good book because of the challenges it tackled throughout. At first, the main storyline just seemed to be a romance, but as I delved deeper into the book I realised that this is not the case at all. Mack, one of the main characters, struggles a learning disability, a history of bullying, a criminal record, and sometimes uncontrollable violent urges. When he makes a mistake, his friends around him struggle to cope with his actions, as does he. The way that he reacts to his actions are unexpected, but don't think it could have been better any other way. This sort of book is difficult to finish writing due to the long term consequences that Mack suffers, but Paul Griffin finished it off nicely. The rough language style used by Griffin was captivating and it really helped set the scene. I could almost imagine standing right there and watching the story take place. A really well written book, if not a tad dreary. less
