review 1: The theme statement of Gangster Squad is to never steal and always do what is right. The story takes place in Los Angeles. The setting of the book is about a group of guys who try to stop a really strong gang. They are undercover cops and they are eight men in their group. They were assigned to take down Mickey Cohen and other mobsters in his group. The protagonist in this story is Jack Whalen and the main characters are Mickey Cohen, Jerry Wooters, Chief Bell Parker, John O'Mara, Navidad Ramirez, and Tommy Russo. I really liked this book. My critique for the book is positive. The writing in the book is powerful and effective because their is a lot of violence in the book. I would recommend this book to my friends because we all like the same topics. If this ... morebook was part of a series I would love to read the following books.
review 2: I saw the movie last year and I enjoyed it, so I thought that I should read the book. The story is very intense and interesting. I found it interesting how the gangsters would commit organised crime and that the police were struggling to handle the organised crime. I enjoyed reading about how a hand-picked group of eight police officers covertly take down these big-time gangsters.I did not however, enjoy the "flow" of the book. This book was adapted from news paper articles and I feel that the topics covered in the book jumped around, which made the book a bit confusing. I was also a bit disappointed because I expected more action in the book, the first part of the book was rather slow. less

There is a good story here, unfortunately, author managed to bury it somehow in his prose.
