review 1: Cruel Harvest is the love story of Brannon and Orlaith. Arab pirates kidnap Brannon in the middle of the night, and whisk him away to Africa to sell him as a slave. Orlaith, thinking him dead, must marry a local nobleman or watch her son starve. Battling a power-man sultan and his imperial guard, Brannon must find a way home to Orlaith before her abusive new husband beats her to death. This was an intriguing novel that kept me on the edge of my seat. My only complaint is that it could've been longer. The pacing for the last 50 pages seemed rushed. I would prefer to relish the resolution after investing so much in the characters.
review 2: This is a very intense, fast-moving story, detailing the aftermath of a pirate raid upon an Irish village in the 18th ce
... morentury, in which a young man is torn from his lover and sold into slavery in Morocco. While the raid itself provides the spark, the story soon evolves into a far more complex drama and an increasingly high-stakes adventure, between both Ireland and Morocco. The early chapters set the scene and are mostly action-based, but as the book goes on we get to see inside the heads of the characters more. The Moroccan characters (both good and bad) are just as appealing as the Irish ones. The prose becomes ever more beautiful and evocative as the book progresses. I think fans of authors such as Wilbur Smith and Bernard Cornwell would particularly love it. In short it was a hugely satisfying read, and I would highly recommend it. less
