review 2: The basic premise of this book was interesting. From the synopsis and reviews, it seemed like a sure-fire hit with all the right elements for a good read-Egypt, sun-gods, ancient venerated object with mythical pow
... moreers so on and so forth. Sure enough, at the core, the author hit the mark on all those fronts. The reason it fell flat is because of the amount of violence and in my opinion, gratuitous violence. Unnecessary and disturbingly detailed descriptions of violence for a book of this genre. Without giving much away, there are a few sentences towards the end of the book where the main characters are observing something particularly grotesque and the protagonist states that she can't look but continues to do so anyway. My feelings about this book are in a similar vein: I looked, I looked away (skimming most of the way) and a good part of me wishes I hadn't wasted my time looking anyways. The ultimate reveal was not worth it. less

Fun, action-packed, like reading a Hollywood movie. I enjoyed the Egyptology references.
