review 1: This is a timeless and clever modern satire of race, class, identity and education in America wrapped within a tongue-in-cheek parody of Sidney Poitier films. Percival Everett's novel is a combination of Ralph Ellison mixed with David Sedaris. The more familiar the reader is with both Poitier's & Everett's bodies of work, the more one will appreciate the absurdism and sardonic wit of "I Am Not Sidney Poitier".
review 2: I wish I could give this 4.5 stars because I really, really enjoyed this book. It was funny, surreal and poignant; equal parts social commentary and narrative, which I appreciated. Exactly, what I was looking for- a Black male protagonist who wasn't a tragic stereotype victim of urban plight blah blah blah (hence why I was so disappointed in W
... morehite Boy Shuffle). I loved Ted Turner and Professor Everett as supporting characters, they were always good for an absurdist chuckle. less

Very entertaining book. Once again, Percival kept me entertained until the last page of the book.

Read for my Novel Workshop. An interesting but very brutal look at modern racism.

Clever book incorporating plot lines from Sidney Poitier's films.

Percival Everett is a genius of the mad scientist variety.
