review 1: I'm clearly in the minority here - but I didn't care for this novel at all. Yes, the writing is superb, and the first third of the book was all good for me, but it went downhill for me after that.I see people saying this book is 3 novellas or 3 short stories, but on the front of the book, it says this is a Novel ... which means, I didn't expect 3 stories that really have no connection to each other - well except for the characters involved. I kept expecting that the 3 cases would connect somehow, and was very disappointed as time went on, and there was no bigger picture.The ending - yes, a twist, but I really didn't care. It didn't add up and I'm not interested enough to go back and look at clues - I shouldn't have to as the book isn't that big, so it should be fresh in my... more mind.I wouldn't recommend this to anyone - it's sort of boring.
review 2: Il solito piacevolissimo Everett.Un libro che sono tre storie non banali, in cui si racconta la provincia statunitense con acume e senza facili scorciatoie.Razza, religione, genere, sono temi che il nostro affronta mai direttamente ma che, alla fine, sviscera meglio di tanti saggi sociologici o presunti tali.Insieme a questo una scrittura che amo, senza tanti fronzoli ma precisa.Bello. less
