review 1: I thought that The Colossus Rises by Peter Lerangis was interesting. I really enjoyed the story, and I really want to read the second book (darn cliffhangers making everything difficult). The only part I didn't like was how the same problems kept reappearing, even when they were solved (i.e the vromaski when they are at the monastery. On the other hand, I liked how the characters came from all sorts of backgrounds. It was interesting to see how everyone's lives come together and form a story worth reading. This book is a great read.
review 2: I was a little disappointed by this one. I had heard lots of good things, especially as a read-alike for Percy Jackson fans. However, I found the characters flat, the plot rushed with many unnecessary turns and most of th
... moree circumstances and dialogue unbelievable. And yes, I know, it's a fantasy, it is not supposed to be believable, but good fantasy does require a better degree of world-building than I found here. I just wasn't drawn in at all. Fans of action sequences will probably enjoy the many life-threatening situations that the characters face. It's a shame that I didn't like it more, as I am really interested in ancient Mediterranean culture. And if that were more the focus, I think it could have been better. less

Recommended for Percy Jackson or 39 Clues lovers. Not as good as either one of those, though.
