review 1: The Great Bazaar is a good story and a nice addition to The Warded Man, though it would not work terribly well on its own. Even though it was written after that novel was completed, it still has the feel of a deleted scene, one which reveals a small mystery left open in the original book but is otherwise just a fun little indulgence with no serious purpose. Arlen is the deleted prologue to The Warded Man which was written far before the rest of the book. I can see why it was removed but it's actually a pretty interesting introduction to the world with a little more suspense than is common with the rest of book.
review 2: Peter V. Brett truly is a modern great, a master of his art. In the few words needed to create this short story which is read in the space
... moreof a couple of hours, he was able to capture the world that Arlen lives in with almost as much detail as a full length novel. This book covers parts of Arlens life as a messenger and his quest for knowledge about the ancient symbols that will help mankind fight back against the demon infested world that plagues them.Well worth reading whether you've read the Painted(Warded) Man or not. less

Loved it. Except I wish I knew where it went in terms of a timeline, in the story.

Fun, but not necessary for enjoying the rest of the series.
