review 1: Peter V. Brett's best novella to date. A microscopic look at life in the hamlets that comprise Brett's Demon Cycle World-- the interaction between people of different ethnic backgrounds, local town politics and religion, various responses to the fear of corelings. While not necessary reading for a complete understanding of the series, it does provide little details that add substance to the entire story.
review 2: Messenger's Legacy is the perfect way to tie yourself over until The Skull Throne comes out next year. Peter V Brett has crafted a short, yet exciting novella that tells the tale of Mudboy - a character originally cut from the Daylight War. I am glad Brett took the time to develop Mudboy away from the primary story in the Demon Cycle, so no other char... moreacter could steal his time to shine. His origin story has echoes of Arlen's and I would find it hard to believe if readers of this series don't enjoy watching how Mudboy learns to deal with demons. Very much looking forward to reading more about him in the Skull Throne! less
