review 1: Now this was a stellar read. A story told with all the sweeping, epic grandeur it deserves...and it's a wonderful compliment to Norman Cantor's volume on Alexander the Great. Cantor is concerned with the psychology and impact of Alexander as an individual, while Freeman concentrates on the life story that individual leads. Between the two volumes, you have everything you'll ever need to know about history's most ambitious & incredible warrior king. Truly satisfying.

... moreuite sure if I've read the same sentence twice because it is in a sense written in a monotone.I would however still recommend this as it IS a difficult task writing about a figure in history so long ago and we can only learn about him through references through other eyes. This has been one of the better books I've read on Alexander, though. less

Interesting, but not nearly as engaging as the author's bio of Julius Caesar.
