review 1: Never before have I so enjoyed a nonfiction book. It was splendidly informative, greatly amusing, and wonderfully written. Hensher's commentary on the evolution and future of the written word and practice of handwriting was diverting, heartbreaking, and inspiring. I for one will be putting more effort into to writing more by hand and having a greater appreciation for my handwriting as well as those of others.
review 2: This jocular book will appeal to curmudgeons of all ages -- even tech junkies like me who still appreciate the feel of a well-weighted writing instrument and the elegant flow of ink across paper. It contains one of the best sentences that I have read in quite a long time: "Spotting psychological tendencies which you knew about anyway in the hand... morewriting of famous people is, I have to say, the occupation of idiots."
