review 1: Oh dear gods, where do I begin? I have to wait OVER a year for the final installment? I'd rather face pitvipers and all sorts of other evils than wait that long for the next part. BOO!!!What an amazing book! I had high expectations going into Red Rising and Golden Son -- Goodreads choice awards and most anticipated book of 2015 from a YOUNG DEBUT AUTHOR? This had better be good. And did it ever shatter my expectations and rise so far above them that they were just a tiny dot in sight? YES. These two books ROCKED MY WORLD. TOTALLY. I've never been a huge sci-fi fan, and dystopian novels tend to bore me. Not these. Red Rising was absolutely incredible. So of course, I feared Second Book Syndrome (as us Goodreadsers like to call it)... and instead was rewarded wi... moreth SOMETHING TEN TIMES BETTER THAN THE FIRST. Don't get me wrong, I still adore Red Rising, but Golden Son is a completely different beast. It takes this small world that Brown created in Red Rising and expands it into a giant universe, with tons of new characters -- all of which seem entirely believable and fleshed out very soon after meeting them. He's not afraid to kill them off, to change their loyalties, to twist the truth. Brown is a friggin' genius. Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced reader copy and to the insanely hot Pierce Brown for writing this masterpiece. Now, if you don't mind me, I'm going to go hibernate for a year and try to get book three here sooner -- unless gifts, bribes, or sexual favors will do the job???
review 2: I said the first book, "Red Rising," was equal to "Endor's Game." This sequel is better! The large cast of very human characters, the structured future world, the intrigue and violence are presented in perfect language, and combine to pull the reader into an intense reading experience. It is excitement on every page, with emotional involvements that grab the reader. It is the kind of book you want to read again and again to pick up more of the nuances and enjoy the intense scenes. I can't wait for the final book in the trilogy. less
