review 1: Lord knows I love a strong woman and Eliza Braun was no exception. She had a hard way about her, but never feared showing her sensitive side, when it was appropriate. The case they are faced with in the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences involves a very real issue that existed, women's rights to be treated equal to men. The mystery itself is really great and danger lurks around almost every corner with enough room between corners to allow some character depth and growth. I can't wait for the next book!
review 2: Started reading this cos I was suffering from parasol protectorate withdrawal but am rather enjoying this for its own sake. Not as witty as parasol protectorate but perfectly serviceable comedy with lots of action and the steampunk world is imagined with ... moreenough detail. Think I will stick with the main series but ditch the half baked short story spin offs which are just a shameless bilking of the fans less
