review 1: This is a sweet bedtime book about a boy named Arthur who is trying to share his dream with his family. But no one is listening or is interested. They don't even notice his dream boat growing on his head until they all get swept away in Arthur's dream. I'm sure readers will relate to a time when they wanted to share their dreams only to be told to deaf ears. This is a story that will inspire readers to imagine and dream big.The illustrations are soft and sweet. The text are precise. It almost felt as if the plot was lacking near the end, but the illustrations carried the story the rest of the way that will leave you delighted. It is fortunate that Polly Dunbar is an author-illustrator...and an award-winning one at that!
review 2: Last night, Arthur dream
... moret of a boat. As he goes around trying to get his family to listen to his dream, the boat in his memory (cleverly pictured on top of his head) takes on qualities of his family and their home - polka-dot sails match Mom's polka-dot dress, etc. As no one listens, the sea creeps up on Arthur and his family with the sound, "ssshhh, ssshhh" and sweeps everyone in, including Arthur, now safely in his boat. He does, of course, save them all. Then, on the endpapers, Arthur is asleep, begging the question was this all a dream too?Dunbar is such a great illustrator for children, combining bright colors, round and adorable children, endearing little details, and an often quirky sense of humor. This is a fantastic picturebook because her illustrations really tell the whole story and there is much to see. The colors change from spread to spread, as does his boat. There are great sounds - the dog's "arrrhoo!" the brother's "tippety tap" on his keyboard, and the sound of the sea. The fuzzy pastels imbue a dreamy quality to the dreamy sequences, while "awake" time is more stark and linear. less

Beautiful illustrations. I love that this book was printed on heavy paper in an over-sized book.

I want to like this book--gorgeous illustrations--but the story is a little choppy.

The kids liked the pictures more than anything with this one. It was a cute story.
