review 1: "The Wells Bequest" is book 2 of The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman but the book can be read by itself. It is not dependent on the first book but reading the first book introduces you more thoroughly to the Depository where the Wells Bequest is kept. I liked the first book, "The Grimm Legacy", better but this book is pretty good. The Story: Leo is sitting in his bedroom trying to decide what he should do for the school science fair when a whoosh! and a bang! a miniature version of himself appears sitting on a machine with a pretty girl. His miniature self warns him: "Read the Time Machine by HG Wells!" and then disappears. He wonders who that pretty girl is. Apparently he knew her very well, but had not yet met her.Any problems with this story? Not many. There is kissing but... more not much. No cursing that I can recall. It is a time adventure and you can figure that out in the first page or two.Jaya Rao is a character from the first book. She is as headstrong and confident as ever. She is also the hereditary princess of a kingdom in India that no longer exists. This is not explained well in this book and it is one of the reasons you might want to read the first book to get a full background, but it is not necessary in enjoying this book. Leo is jealous of Simon. They are both interested in Jaya. (Jaya is the miniature pretty girl that Leo saw in his bedroom in the first few pages of the book.) Leo's jealousy is a little annoying at times but understandable. It is less understandable at the end of the book but everything is resolved.Simon's character is also a bit annoying. He seems incredibly foolish (and by incredible, I mean... I don't believe anyone could be this foolish and still be sane.) Nevertheless, intellectually, I can understand that with a time machine he figures he can fix whatever mistakes he makes by going back in time and warning himself. Is it OK for kids? If you don't mind the kissing stuff... sure. Over all I enjoyed the book. It had a good ending if somewhat confusing as the characters used the time machine to resolve various loose ends.I'd read this book again.
review 2: I read this book for my tween and teen book club. This book takes place in the same universe as The Grimm Legacy but focuses on different people. It is smart and funny. I nice light read with a plot I could have come up with but I liked it. I love the New York Circulating Repository. In this book we learn about a few more special collections and about other repositories. I hope this means there will be more adventures! less

First one is better. Jaya gets kind of annoying sometimes, same with Leo
