review 1: I did not have high hopes for this book. When people get hyped about a movie/book/author/etc. there seems to then follow more books that will always sell by the millions. I don't typically get on the bandwagon and this book is exactly the reason. I gave it a chance though. While the author leaves many thought provoking comments (purity, integrity, time alone with God) through out the book, I wasn't left remembering much of anything. The intention to compile a book with all these topics crammed in together disallows for deeper study on each topic. Further more, while I was on board for most of the first chapters, when it hit Part 3 I had a hard time even finishing the book. She teaches a child is born in sin which is a devastating doctrine. She also teaches the Spirit in dwe... morelling, miracles today and salvation without baptism. I didn't appreciate the way she discussed spouses aren't always "lovable" and can get on your nerves. I don't think that should ever be acceptable to say even in explaining the necessity of respect for your husband.Overall, I don't recommend this book. I think you can find the good principles in another book (or many books).
review 2: After much tossing back and forth from 4 to 5 stars, I feel I have to give this book 5 stars. A few months ago, I happened to pick this book up as a promotional item. It looked interesting and the reference to "Courageous" drew me in. I had no idea what to expect, but the writing suited my current lifestyle. After just finishing up the book, I am amazed and excited at how this book has caused me to re-evaluate the way I think about some things in my life. So much to the point that I think it will result in life changes. For me, this is significant. Shirer presented the material in a personal way so that every reader could relate. My only critique is that I wish she would have stuck with the KJV. The other versions just do not have the same influence. I did not agree with every sentence in the book, but the majority I thought was fantastic. Worth the read! less
