review 1: Read in prepub: I was fascinated by the lives of Vanessa and Virginia, and the books really was Vanessa's story, you got to see glimpses of Virginia through the lens of Vanessa's passionate and troubled relationship with her. The book captured the tumultuous nature of the Bloomsbury crowd perfectly. It could have been a reality TV show if such things existed back then. Who was sleeping with who, who was mad at the other for some perceived slight, whose relationship was Virginia trying to sabotage, the list of dramas go on and on.
review 2: This is the story of two sisters and their tumultuous relationship - Vanessa Bell the artist and her writer sister, Virginia Woolf. All the siblings lived in a huge house in the less than fashionable Bloomsbury and it is h
... moreere that they all met on a regular basis with some of the biggest literary and artist names of the era. The scope of the book is their relationship which is told through Vanessa's writings in her diary and letters which was a difficult format for me to follow. At the end of the day it is a story of jealousy, love and madness which can occur in any family - privileged, talented or common. less
