review 1: This appealed to the (inner) geek in me. When my older son was but a year old, we started watching different robot wars as a family. We collected all the toys that were out there for the fighting robots. We even watched Grant (from Mythbusters) win his championship. So this book was great to read from my geeky love of robot wars perspective. The story had a nice flow and it was easy to read the emotions on the characters with the accurate depictions. The storyline was a little bit off at times, but in the end, I really enjoyed this (albeit predictable) graphic novel.
review 2: I love Faith Erin Hicks' illustration work, and coupled with a fun story by Prudence Shen, this is a great graphic novel. Filled with humor and friendship and great robot battle scenes! B
... moreest friends Nate (nerdy president of the robotics club) and Charlie (popular captain of the basketball team) end up as rivals campaigning for Student Body President in order to control school funding: Nate wants it for the robotics competition and the cheerleaders want it for new uniforms. "Hilarity ensues" as the two go to great lengths to try to win the election. I liked the overly dramatic Nate, and the tomboy robotics expert Joanna, and the "bromance" between these two very different friends. There is also a good chivalrous moment related to some bullying. The book overall is realistic, doesn't have a soppy happy ending but ties up loose ends nonetheless. And did I mention it's funny?! Perfect for middle school. less

Nice, quick read concerning the perils of social status, divorce, cheerleaders and robots.

Read it twice in the span of two days, still laughed just as hard the second time.
