review 1: My 8 year old brought this book home from the school library. The cover looked scary to him, so he asked me to read it first. I actually enjoyed the book. The characters were fun and have a bit of intrigue about them. He is a good reader, and would have been able to comprehend the book. The book was more suspenseful than scary. There are two characters that were creepy, but the author didn't go into deep detail describing either one. My child has yet to read it. He has about 4 other chapter books he is working on right now. Maybe I'll read it out loud to him over the summer.
review 2: A very engaging story. The author spins a new and interesting fantasy tale. Can't say much without giving it away, but take my word for it when I say that this is a gre... moreat series. You aren't driven too nuts waiting and waiting for mysteries to unfold, yet still retaining suspense. There is also plenty of action and adventure. A series for those young to young at heart will enjoy as much as they have enjoyed Mull, Alexander, Cooper and others alike. less
