The Books of Umber
review 1: This book was one of the best books I have ever read! I really liked this book because of the characters, They are so simple and well described. For example "Happenstance could only stay in his room for certain amount of time. He then soon went out to do some exploring..." From this the reader can learn that Happenstance is a very courageous, adventuring, and humble child. This is one of the ways the author keeps the reader engaged till the very end. That truly makes this book a must read!
review 2: Happenstance is a boy who wakes up with seemingly infinite knowledge of the world around him, but no knowledge of who he is and why he is being left in the care of an eccentric named Brian Umber. Meanwhile, Umber has no idea why he seems to be the only one to take
... morecare of Happenstance. So begins the story of Hap and Umber's adventure in finding the answers to their many questions while being hunted by a mysterious man who has a deadly fascination with the unique green eyes Hap possesses. This is a great kids book full of adventure and danger. A wonderful staple in the fantasy genre that many will find amusing many times over. I know I do. Enjoy! less

If your students liked the Fablehaven, or Pendragon books, they will really enjoy these.

Pretty good adventure - not terrifically scary or anything. It's a little . . . mild?
