review 1: Well, this wasn't my favorite book. I felt like the author over developed the characters. In an attempt to keep readers in suspense, the author spent too much time creating suspension then changing subjects. It was a good effort but just left me frustrated and bored. The beginning caught my attention immediately, the middle felt like it was never going to go anywhere, then the last 5 chapters were interesting again. It did have a good twist, just took too long to get there.
review 2: This is the second book by Abbott and while it is still a fast-paced enthralling read, I can’t say I enjoyed it quite as much as Only the Innocent. The story alternated between the main characters, but I was really hoping for a little more of Tom Douglas, the detective in t
... morehe first book. I liked Ellie, but felt Leo (her sister) was a more interesting and stronger character. There was definitely a small-town mystery and a couple of past mysteries to solve, but all the miscommunication and/or lack thereof between the sisters and Ellie and her husband got a bit tedious and frustrating. Then again, this could have been Abbott throwing in as many red herrings as possible to keep us guessing. Either way, this will not stop me from picking up her next book, but I do hope she will include Tom a little more in the story since he seems to be a regular. less

Good psychological thriller with enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.
