review 1: Well this book was better than I thought it would be, and I was dreading reading it for about a year because I know how many sequels there are. It gets 1.5 stars knocked off for Caine's casual attitude towards violence and rape. Seriously, how many times can a girl almost get raped and still be walking around like everything is fine? I would not be going to a party in a teeny tiny dress if the last time I went to one I was almost gang raped. Seriously, Claire?! Another 0.5 star is for Claire. She's annoying and stubborn and childish. Being called jailbait by your boyfriend isn't funny, not even a little bit. I get that Caine is trying to get across an image of college life, life in Morganville and living with two guys, but she does it poorly and she makes it cheap. Sure, a... morell the steamy kissing was, well, steamy, but when its combined with all this angst about how its *technically* illegal and not-so-veiled references to sex it just combines into one big pile of annoying. Complaints aside, I liked how it was written. It felt like it was written by a teenager and for all I know, it was, but I liked Caine's style. It doesn't require much brain power and it was easy to get through. The plot is like so much other YA fiction which is also why I didn't really want to read it, but it did okay. I'm not paying full price for the rest of these books but if I can get them cheap...who knows?
review 2: These books have been on my Amazon wishlist for a good few years, & when I spotted this omnibus in WHSmiths for a fairly reasonable price, I knew I had to buy it.Immediately from the first chapter, even without acknowledging the series title, it is clear that something isn't quite right with the town of Morganville, Texas. A young, extremely intelligent girl, Claire Danvers, having enrolled at Texas Prairie University two years ahead of her class, makes an enemy of the most popular girl on campus, which starts with Claire's laundry being thrown down the trash chute, continues with Claire herself being thrown down a flight of stairs, & concludes with Claire desperately finding somewhere outside of the dorms & off campus for her to live.Which is where the Glass House comes in. Owned by Michael Glass, & inhabited by Michael, & his two roommates Eve Rosser & Shane Collins.Despite Michael's initial reluctance to allow a minor to live in his house, Claire moves in, & the disruption only just begins.A series of secrets, vampire factions, ghosts, magic & a mysterious illness follows.I've ordered the next book already... less
