review 1: I would have liked it more if it wasn't so similar to the Captive Prince series. I enjoyed the reading, very entertaining but there was definitely something missing. Whenever I read books, the narrative takes place in my head. As in, a movie I'm directing or something close to it. In this case I had trouble in doing that. I can't quite explain, it's like the words passed through me but they didn't exactly translate into a "mind-movie".
review 2: This would get 4 stars from me, except for the climax, or should I say the lack thereof. The buildup to the major confrontation was well paced, though I would like to have seen more of an expansion in the portrayal of the Elven Republic. It builds up to a rousing finish, and then, poof! The plot skips right over the
... moreclimactic moment straight to the denouement. I can understand the 3rd person limited point-of-view restricts the information that can reasonably be imparted, but there’s not even a retrospective explanation of what happened in the final moments of the action. It has to be inferred, reminding me of the ending of the last Matrix movie. It left me with a sour taste in my mouth, and I felt cheated. By analogy, it was like reading Harry Potter’s final duel with Voldemort, if Harry had kept his mouth shut the whole time and didn’t explain or place the events in context. Other than that, I quite enjoyed the book, right up to the last chapter. less

Another 10 star - the perfect followup to the first book and I loved every single word of it.
