review 1: Escape In You by Rachel Schurig4 StarsSpoilers***This book is about two people meeting and falling in love and becoming dependent on each other to escape from their realities. They both try to block out reality by turning to alcohol to numb the pain and escape the hell they are living in.Taylor is stuck. His brother died and his mother blames him for his death. She is brutal to him and I wanted to climb into my kindle and punch her in the throat. Repeatedly. She turned to alcohol when she lost her son and is rarely sober. Taylor’s father took a job and relocated and his visits back home have basically stopped. Essentially, Taylor feels so much guilt, thinking that he is to blame for his brothers death, he won’t leave his mother, he feels he has to stay to take c... moreare of her even though she is the devil. He doesn’t have many close friends and is in a rut. I really wished I could have given him a hug.Zoe is also stuck and in a rut. She lives with her mother and step-father Jerry who is a drunken douche-bag. Her mother however, seems to be having mental issues which are expanded on later on in the book and I don’t want to reveal too much but, like Taylor, Zoe feels that she must stick around because she needs to make sure her mother gets her meds and eats and functions as best as she can and since her stepfather is either drunk or never home, she takes on this responsibility. Another likeness to Taylor is she has a very small circle of friends and numbs her pain in alcohol as well. There is so much guilt, anguish, fear, sadness that I was getting depressed a little for them and their situations. They both feel so helpless and alone and truly feel this is as good as it is gonna get for them. Although it is extremely hard for them to open up to each other with the truth about their lives, they are drawn together and start to bond. They open up and they both start to think that things are better for having the other in their lives. Things are going great and…they break up. I won’t give away what happens and all the circumstances around it but while they are broken up they get a “wake up” call that brings them back together. While it was a little depressing it was a good book and the emotion felt from the characters was realistic…I could have done without so many drinking and partying scenes and would have rather the author put more details into the book about their pasts.
review 2: Taylor I loved that boy so damn much, "that was pretty intense," I mutter, and let my head fall back against the couch so I'm staring at the ceiling. "God, woman, what are you doing to me?" He has so much control and I was proud of him, "I have to take my hands off her. My anger is so strong I'm afraid I might hurt her. "So it's okay he hit you because he was drunk?" The boy just can't catch a break at times, "yeah, tell that to my junk," he mutters as he walks to the bathroom. I laugh and gather up my jeans and bra." I loved reading this book and I hope to see other characters get a story of their own. less
