review 1: Bear in mind I do NOT give five stars lightly but this one definitely deserves it. This book deserved five stars and then some. When the author sent me this book to read and review I didn't think much of it. Not in that I dismissed it but in that I didn't have any preconceived notions about the book or it's author. It was pretty much just me accepting a book and hoping for the best. I was so foolish to think that, only that. This book is not just a book. It is a journey. It was so raw at times that I felt the hurt, deep inside, all the way down in an untapped place inside of me, inside of my heart.Wow, just wow. I read some parts of this book through blurred vision because of the tears that threatened to fall. Just when it got too rough Paulus pulled me back in with a swoon... more worthy, get that stupid smile off your face moment. The whole lot of it was so unfiltered and so natural in a way that a lot of authors don't have the skill set to acheive. There are so many words and so many things I want to say, to share but in hopes of making this spoiler free I will hold my tongue. I assure you it is no easy task. Just like this book. It is not easy, it is not sugar coated. It is a harsh sip of reality and I want to dive right into it, heartache and all. It's sad but happy. It was a roller coaster of emotions and even though it hurt I didn't want to get off. I wanted more. I need more. The world building is perfectly written and perfectly timed. The characters are powerful in the most subdued way. Lagan, oh Lagan. He is by far one of the most amazing non-human beings I have ever encountered. I think I loved his character the most for the crucial role he played in the story, and in the life of the main character. I just cannot stop swooning.Swimming Through Clouds is one of those stories that settle into the folds of your heart and makes a home.I'm pretty sure that I will proceed to rant and rave on every social media platform that I'm on because I believe this book deserves that, and then some. Just do yourself a favor and read it. You will be thanking me later.
review 2: I got a copy from the author for my honest review. I have to admit, I don't like to read about any child suffering because of a grown up, especially getting abused but Rajdeep Paulus hooked me from the first page of Swimming through Clouds. The situation is real and one that seems to happen more and more everyday. We can't ignore it and I think what Rajdeep Paulus did with this debut novel was quite amazing. Although the setting isn't my favorite, the words, description and imagination coming from this author was.I couldn't put the book down and Lagan Desai, is such an amazing character, you won't help to love this character dearly. He creeps into one's soul and I loved loved loved his Post-it's he kept sending Talia in order to gain her trust, friendship and love.A beautiful story of heartache, pain, kindness and love and I understand why Swimming through Clouds were up for an Literary Awards.Well done Rajdeep and I wish you all the best with Swimming through the clouds and all your writing endeavors. I'll definitely keep an eye on this author. Worth buying this novel and I recommend it to everyone that loves a drama, something different type of love story. less
