review 1: If you are looking for a good, ol’ Sci-Fi novel, I mean the whole deal: space battles, self-conscious AIs, aliens, cloaking devices, spaceships several kilometres long and wormhole this is the book for you.Randolph Lalonde is another successful story in the self-published realm. His books have hundreds of reviews on Amazon and he sold thousands of his works, now successfully making a living out of them.Origins (Spinward Fringe) is the story of Captain Valent and the crew of the shadow ship First Light. Its mission, to acquire new technology and knowledge that can improve the changes of survivals of the space station Freeground, a democratic and free outpost threatened by many enemies, one of the last beacon of hope remained in the known Universe which is almost entirely ... moreruled by ruthless giant space corporations.I was impressed reading Lalonde’s book. The story is both fresh and simply written, action packed, easy to follow and well planned. There is some serious world-building work in here. The technology is very well described, interstellar geopolitics is just hint but nonetheless well presented giving us a general idea of what is happening in this universe and why.The characters are well developed. They are credible, well defined and with clear traits that make them believable. Minh’s and Oz’s jokes contribute in my opinion to some of the most entertaining moment in the entire book. The battle between spaceship are nothing less than memorable, incredibly well described and detailed. Every single time, I felt like I was on the bridge with Captain Valente while he and his crew were facing a Super Carrier or a Destroyer that throw at the First Light everything they’ve got.In conclusion a must read for every Sci-Fi junkie or simply for those looking for an action packed, damn well written book.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book, and will soon be reading the next in the series. A space opera, it has elements that remind me of both Star Trek and Firefly, and indeed, even has a few references for fan laughs. Like Star Trek though, a suspension of disbelief is needed when it comes to how they get out of all their many scrapes. This story has a number of twists and turns... I enjoy not being able to predict the way it's going to go. The universe building is interesting as well... planets and sections of space owned by corporations, few free populations, the race for advanced tech to survive the neverending conflicts, laws that are far behind the tech's capabilities... a dangerous and exciting place for a crew charged with finding, buying and stealing all advanced tech they can find. less

Definitely a Space Saga that read like either a TV series or a story based video game.
