“Eight Nights in December” by Keira Andrews

A geek. A virgin. One sexy holiday.

Orphaned Lucas figures spending the holidays with his obnoxious roommate’s family in New York City is better than staying alone on campus upstate. He ends up sharing a room again, this time with his roommate’s brother, Nate. Geeky photographer Nate isn’t at all what Lucas expects. In fact, he’s incredibly sexy—especially when he invites Lucas into his darkroom…

They hide their attraction during Hanukkah celebrations, but behind closed doors, Lucas and Nate can’t keep their hands (or mouths) off each other. Nate’s only looking for a bit of holiday fun, and amazing sex with a hot virgin definitely fits the bill. Yet as the candles burn, Nate and Lucas begin to realize eight nights will never be enough.

Do over! I’ve just discovered this is a reworked, redone, re-released story and I’m thankful I missed it the first time around. Why? Because I absolutely adored this version and from the spoiler chatter I ran across from a few years ago and I’m not certain I would have been able to say the same the first time around. The bones of the story remain the same but rather than having two books, Keira did some flipping and switching, (or more precisely, she did NOT) and wrapped up their story with a beautiful epilogue. Yay! It was tender, sweet and warmhearted…exactly what I’m searching for when it comes to holiday stories.

Lucas is a freshman in college doing his best to push forward after the loss of his father. His dad was the only family he had and his passing left a huge hole in his heart. His upperclassman roommate, Sam, is gorgeous but not what he envisions as his first boyfriend. Yeah, Lucas is discovering many things at college including embracing his sexuality. He’s been focused on his studies and trying to make up for the time he missed while he sat vigil at his father’s deathbed. Celebrating the holiday’s is not something he’s looking forward to this year but when his roommate’s mom appears like a windstorm he can’t turn down her invitation to join them. He figures anything is better than spending them alone. Family traditions and a sexy younger brother who IS everything he imagined his first love to be brighten the holiday to a blinding level. Nate is full of surprises but the biggest surprise of all is how Lucas understands him. Nate is adamant that he is not interested in anything long-term but then he didn’t plan on meeting or falling for Lucas. *sigh* First love, first time, first…everything.

Of course, the writing is superb. Andrews has mastered the skill of emotional pull and she snared me from the very beginning. My heart instantly ached for Lucas and I longed for him to be taken care of. Admittedly, I’m not the best with blurbs. So I will confess that when the story began, I wasn’t sure if Lucas was attracted to Sam or not. But I was thrilled when Nate entered the picture. It was easy to see Lucas needed Nate but on the flip side, Nate needed Lucas just as much. They were better, stronger, and happier together…which is what made this connection so phenomenal.

I loved how forgiving and eager Lucas was. I loved how shockingly possessive Nate was. I loved how madly they fell for each other. The last thing Lucas anticipated when he accepted the ‘be our guest’ invitation was to find his special someone. The last thing Nate thought would happen over Hanukkah was scoring a boyfriend. But sometimes, the best gifts are those we never foresee coming. Speaking of coming…Lucas sheds his virgin card and does his best to jump to experienced over the course of holiday break. Nate is more than happy to oblige in assisting him. They are scorching hot together. But it’s not just the sex…it’s the tenderness, the compassion, the infatuation. Put it all together and it’s a heady combination. Top it off with the family touches and Hanukkah goodness and I was grinning from ear to ear.

Death of a parent, sexual discovery and sexy nerds. Their fall may be quick, but I didn’t mind the timeline at all. And the epilogue was pure perfection!

If you are looking for a Hanukkah story with big heart, this lovely story fits the bill.
