review 1: This is heart breaking good story. A story that is unforgettable. I had all emotions running through me. I felt heart broken, tearful, angry, sad and happy for the sisters trying to do well for them selves. As I have had my own family problems when I was child, I kind of understand how the two sisters feel differently about their father. Lulu and Merry's father kill their mother and then Merry is knifed by her crazy drunken father. Their father is sent to prison where Merry visits her father in prison although he knifed her. Lulu the eldest sister dosen't want any thing to do with her father as he took their mothers life. I highly recommend this book it just grabs you from page one.
review 2: Their mother has been murdered by the hands of their father and his at
... moretempt to kill his youngest daughter fails. Losing both parents, the girls are taken to an orphanage. The book then follows the girls as they grow up. One who lives a controlled life, the other somewhat unstable. One who allows no room for forgiveness for such a horrible crime, the other who offers forgiveness without being asked. The bond the two sisters share is very heartwarming. However, as much as I tried...I just didn't like the book. I kept on reading thinking I would eventually get into it after seeing all the great reviews. Thought it was boring less

Very moving and deep book only if the reader has similar life background as Merry/Lulu's.

A great read... Hard to put down. Except for the ending! It was totally unsatisfying.

Not bad, felt a little long at times, but I did like it.
