Hello guys, It is my first time making review.
The Perfect Rake is a novel by Anne Gracie. It is actually the first novel of a series of 4 books. Before I start writing my review let me give you an overview of the character and the settings of the story.
The story is about Merridew siblings seeking for their happily ever after. The oldest of the Merridew siblings is Prudence, the second oldest is Charity, then there is Hope and Faith who are twin, and the youngest of all is Grace. The story took place in England around 1810s.
First, you need to know that Anne Gracie is such a cool writer. The first book of The Perfect series is one of the proofs. In this first book is told how Merridew siblings who got ill treatment from his grandfather managed to escape and went to London to see Oswald Marridew who is the older brother of his grandfather after his grandfather suffered a severe injury.
At Sir Oswald’s house the story of Prudence, who was the eldest sister of the Merridew sisters began. Sir Oswald, who did not allow Prudence’s sisters to make a coming out in London before Prudence, made her lie saying that she was betrothed to a wealthy hermit Duke of Dinstable who never came to London. Unfortunately, it was reported on the newspaper that the Duke of Dinstable was visiting London. Prudence was forced to cover up her lies by meeting the Duke of Dinstable and asking him to cooperate, unfortunately instead of meeting the Duke Prudence met Lord Gideon Carradice who had a reputation as a Rake.
The story written by Anne Gracie is really full of surprises. In the early chapters I can laugh because Prudence and Gideon’s interactions are so funny. Prudence has an unusual personality, not to mention Gideon who likes challenges, so Gideon is always able to match Prudence and turning things around very unexpectedly.
In the middle of the chapter I began to feel frustrated, because Prudence continued to deny the feelings she had for Gideon because of her status who was still betrothed to Philip Otterbury. Gideon too, he was too stubborn to admit that even a Rake could fall in love.
Towards the final chapters, tension strikes. Grandpapa Merridew who knew of the Merridew sisters are in London and the arrival of Phillip that ruined Prudence and Gideon’s moods made me almost unable to resist the temptation to peek at the end of the story.
Very funny, entertaining, and unexpected, these three words are perfect for describing Anne Gracie’s first book. The side characters like Sir Oswald, Lady Augusta and Grace Merridew also enliven the story. Not to mention the background story of Gideon and Edward that is very heart breaking. Really, Anne Gracie managed to make me fall in love by the first reading. ^^
