So much for a Merridew Girl.
That was my first thought when I finished reading this second book of the Perfect Series by Anne Gracie. The Last Waltz get so many great reviews, saying that it is more than just a simple dance of love. Well, it is, and it is too much. I mean, I don’t really like the way the story going. How Mr. Sebastian Reyne was seeing Lady Elinore Whitelaw as his perfect candidate to be his bride is beyond me.
Okay, I almost forgot to introduce you to the character in the story and the plot. Well, the story revolve around the life of Miss Hope Merridew, the first twin of the Merridew sisters. She had such a bubbly personality and she loved to dance. She met this dark and mysterious man, Mr. Sebastian Reyne on a ball. Sebastian Reyne had two little sisters that has a traumatic background, they were lost on such a young age, Carrie and Dorrie. He also had a friend who was a Rake named Giles Bemerton.
Mr. Sebastian Reyne was looking for a bride of convenient, he needed a bride that can be a mother figure for his little sisters. After giving an order to Mr. Black, he decided to go to London to meet the candidate given by Mr. Black and decided to go for Lady Elinore Whitelaw.
Anne Gracie has her own way of making one dislike a character so bad. I just can’t get over the fact that Lady Elinore Whitelaw was such a frustrating character, even if in the end of the story we got to get the idea that the way she thinks was an inheritance of her mother. I always ended up sighing so bad whenever I read the part when Lady Elinore was around, she was so dull, so not fun, and her way of thinking is annoying. How can she think that a woman can’t have too much fun? That dreams are irrational? That too much sweetness is irrational? Ugh. Her PRESENCE is irrational!
It takes a very long time for Mr. Sebastian Reyne to finally realized that Miss Hope Merridew was actually what his sisters needed.
Personally, I don’t really like how the story goes. After The Perfect Rake, Sebastian Reyne’s background story is not really surpraising. The involvement of Lady Elinore Whitelaw is such a joy breaker. But I always love how Anne Gracie can easily give a little bit of action scene on her story. The part when Hope Merridew saving Sebastian’s sister a kidnapper is mind blowing.
