My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Minot State University
Location: Minot ND
One of the members of our university’s alumni board has a professional background with the US Air Force. I overheard him talking about the “Magic City” of Minot North Dakota. I immediately thought of Minot State University.
Minot and the campus are located in north central part of North Dakota. The city of Minot – got its nickname “Magic City” for its phenomenal growth during the early 1900s – is a regional center for commerce, culture, healthcare, agribusiness and industry.
Minot is home to Minot Air Force Base and is a key service provider in the burgeoning Bakken oil play that’s made North Dakota’s economy one of the strongest in the United States.
Minot State was founded in 1913 as a Normal School. Today its enrollment hovers around 3,000 plus students. You have to be a hardy soul to live in this part of the country. One notable former college basketball coach who grew up in Minot ND is Dale Brown. He was Shaq’s coach at LSU.
In Minot, the summers are long and warm; the winters are freezing, snowy, and windy; and it is partly cloudy year round. In searching Minot website I found that they actually have a link that talks about culture shock. A big part of the page deals with the weather.
