If any of you are fans of the Dragonlance series, it’s probably safe to say that what I (along with many other Dragonlance fans) crave is simply…cinematic redemption.

If you are not familiar with the books, I would highly recommend them (starting with Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night, & Dragons of Spring Dawning). I have read and reread them many times. So when I heard that a Dragonlance movie was coming out, I was very excited.  Unfortunately, that was short-lived.  What was released in my opinion was a piece of garbage.  First of all, why not a live-action film instead a cartoon?  The Lord of the Rings, Zena, The Shannara Chronicles have taught the film industry there is money to be made in these types of films.  Secondly, how could not capture the spirit of these characters? So bland.  And thirdly, speaking of bland what happened to the quality of the illustration?  Looks like something that got thrown together quickly and sent straight to video. I could go on and on about this but I won’t. Suffice to say,  I have been wishing and advocating for a blockbuster live-action film for many years.  I’m surprised even some of the smaller studios such as Netflix or other cable channels have not shown interest in this series.

That being said, I will have to admit the movie Jupiter Ascending provided a bit of redemption for me.  The film provided a pretty interesting glimpse of what a Draconian from the Dragonlance books may look like (minus the guns and leather coats) on the big screen.  From their size, movement, and design, I couldn’t help but instantly visualize this characters from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman’s universe.

Don’t just take my word for it…check it out for yourself!
