review 1: Hill has an uncanny way of delivering the message exactly where it hits. In a homage to Bill Waterson, cartoon-y art doesn't hold back in depicting its typical violence with a strong sense of morality. Hill reinforces in first chapter again that one need not be top of food chain to stand up what they feel is right. Sparrows vs.wolves; who wins in a fight between the two is rhetorical but the fact that sparrows choose to is badass. There is army of rats, teddy bear soldiers, monster garden, heart break, breaking up, best friend issues - all in the month of October. Its amazing how so many things are expressed in just one panel! Just when we thought things were piecing together, it became more cluttered than before yet a semblance of pattern has started to emerge. What an en... moreding. I am glad I have next volume ready at hand else I would go bonkers waiting for next TPB.
review 2: another successful entry, but only just. whisks through a lot of ground to finally bring things to a head (most of this done in the impressive "february" chapter), and while the concluding pair of issues are undeniably gripping in their realisations and revolts, they shift us toward a new trajectory not too dissimilar from the one preceding it. the possession plot has worked fine up to this point, but something else will need to unfold going forward to rescue this from weary repetition. however, the characterisation and creepy atmospherics remain as on point as ever and there's plenty of indelible sequences (the watterson homage) to fawn over. less

Love the beautiful but at the same time sad and harrowing homage to Bill Watterson

So far this was the weakest one, I thought. Still good, though.
