A dog lovers plea

I am a huge dog lover-I’ve loved dogs my whole entire life I think they make the best pets and best friends. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to become a vet but only for dogs. Funny, right? I always joke around saying I’m a dog whisper.

This one-time Joe and I went to Jersey to see my parents one weekend and my parents neighbor has two German Shepherds. One of them got out-Joe and I were walking and suddenly, we see this dog running towards us so me being the dog lover I went up to it very gently and quietly, got on his level and started petting him. I knew it was my neighbor’s dog and Joe was a little frightened that I just went up to this dog. We brought him back to the house and everything was good. Whenever I see a dog my heart melts. I hate reading and seeing on the news about people hurting them because to me it makes absolute no sense in having one if you are going to mistreat them.

Recently, I went grocery shopping and while I was putting my cart back in the lot I saw two dogs in a car. My heart stopped-I couldn’t believe that someone left these two dogs in the car. I immediately went back inside and alert someone that these dogs were unattended. Two guys followed me to the parking lot so I can show them where they were. They told me they called the cops and that because they were in the “shade” that it’s okay. The two front windows were wide open-it was an easy access for anyone to steal these dogs. The two back windows were cracked a little.

It bottles my mind that someone could do that. I personally would NEVER leave my dog in the car unattended-God forbid if some crazy person told him I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself. Sometimes I don’t understand how people think when it comes to pets. What in their right minds think that it’s okay to leave your dog in the car hot or cold? When I look into my dog’s eyes, I couldn’t do that to him because I love him as if he were my baby. Dogs are special animals; they are loving, caring, loyal, trustworthy and act more like family than most human beings. People might think I’m that crazy dog mom and I don’t care. I love and care for animals and I will never change.

I beg you all, if you have a pet or know someone that has one please do not leave your pets or dogs unattended. If you have errands to run, leave your dogs at home where they are safe. Dogs can’t defend for themselves and I hope that with my voice this will help. I hope that there is some good in people to know and understand that animals do not belong in cars alone especially in the heat or cold. Please take care of  your dogs. Please don’t hurt your dogs. If you can’t take care of them, give them to someone else or give them a good home where they will be loved and care for. If I had the money or if I ever won the lotto, I always told Joe that I would pay off my debt (student loans) and open my own dog shelter home that is warm and loving to all dog breeds. I always wanted to save all the abandon dogs and shelter dogs and give them the best home. Who ever said diamonds were a girl’s best friend never owned a dog.
