A personal twist on Orwell’s rules for writing:
Every rose has its thorn, and the thorn of writing is cliche metaphors and figures of speech. Avoid them like the plague.
Never use an interminable word where a lilliputian word will be suffice.
If it is ever possible under any and every circumstances to cut, or delete, or remove a word, always cut, or delete, or remove that word where ever possible for you to do so.
The active voice should be used by you.
Your modus operandi must always be to avoid foreign phrases and scientific jargon. That’s not just my hypothesis. Go ahead and ignore it, Qui vivra verra…
Break any of these rules and you deserve to die. Under no circumstances should you ever break these rules lest you end up the most pathetic moron of your generation.
