Actual Science Confirms: Your Consciousness Continues After “Death”

A major study at the NYU Langone School of Medicine seems to confirm what near death experience (NDE) researchers like Kenneth Ring have been saying for many decades: human consciousness seems to go on after all bodily activities (including that of the brain) have ceased.

In one of the largest studies of this type, Dr. Sam Parnia and his team at NYU studied people who had cardiac arrest and technically died. This group was also revived after their vital signs had ceased, and some reported “hearing” people in the operating room talk about them after that point. These overheard conversations by persons considered clinically dead were later confirmed by doctors, nurses and other staff.

Dr. Parnia defined exactly what level of death we’re talking about:

Technically, that’s how you get the time of death – it’s all based on the moment when the heart stops. Once that happens, blood no longer circulates to the brain, which means brain function halts almost instantaneously. You lose all your brain stem reflexes – your gag reflex, your pupil reflex, all that is gone.

According to this study, however, there is this “burst of brain energy” that occurs and seemingly operates independently of the body functions.

“Burst of brain energy” is a very vague term…and Dr. Parnia admits that what they are seeking to define and quantify here is rather on the esoteric side:

In the same way that a group of researchers might be studying the qualitative nature of the human experience of ‘love’, for instance, we’re trying to understand the exact features that people experience when they go through death…

But once again, it seems like science and the metaphysical are finding some common ground.
