I was recommended this series by a few bloggers that raved about how wonderful this book and series was. So I picked it up to buddy read with Misty @ Misty’s Book Space for our monthly buddy read. We were so excited to dive into this book. The link to Misty’s thoughts about this book is linked here, so please check out her review as well!

To be honest, I’m still trying to figure out why there was so much hype and raving about this book. This was a super slow burn romance. Like PAINFULLY SLOW. So slow there was almost no forward motion at all! It was rough. I can’t express my frustration with Lo and Lilly without giving things away, but it was so blatantly apparent they were in love with each other and they just didn’t see it. GRRR!

I will admit I was sold on this book from the basic premise of the female having a sex addiction and the male having an alcohol addiction. I’ve never read anything like it before. But the book just fell super flat for me. Up until the last 8 or so chapters it felt like ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of any value was happening. Then everything was cram packed into the last 8ish chapters of the book.

Honestly, had it not been for those last chapters this book would have been a 2 star rating for me. It’s also slightly frustrating that for majority of the book I was dead set on not continuing with the series, but then the ending leaves off with a cliffhanger and now I’ve just got to know! So I’ll be continuing the series in hopes that the next book will be a lot faster paced since all the “setting up” of the story should be done. I guess we will see.

Now that I’m done slaying this book, I do want to talk about some of the great things in the books.

Like the characters! I absolutely LOVED Lo, Lilly, and Ryke. I loved that wasn’t afraid to call Lo and Lilly out on their bullish*t. Lo was absolutely infuriating at times with his addiction, like I seriously wanted to punch him in the face a few times, but I freaking LOVED HIM so much. I also found Lilly quite relatable, surprisingly. Her struggle was just so real and her need to protect Lo was admirable.

One thing I did hate was that Lo and Lilly’s relationship (friends or otherwise) was made out to be a very toxic one. When I think it was so so much more than that. It was so much more than them enabling each other and we didn’t really get that vibe.

Overall, this book was one you have to push through and the ending definitely makes it worth sticking it out through the whole thing. It will also make you need to jump right into the next book!

The next book in the series is Ricochet
