review 1: Brubaker continues his amazing run of espionage in the Marvel U with "Broken Arrow"!The missing sleeper agent from the first TPB is no longer missing and he is making things very personal for Bucky and the Black Widow. A well-paced and expertly plotted story that leaves plenty of surprises and an unexpected cliffhanger made this a very enjoyable read. Lark's artwork only enhanced the story and seemed so appropriate for this blended genre.I have no real criticisms, so this is actually more like a 4.5 star rating, maybe 4.75. I look forward to getting my hands on the next volume, so here's hoping that the library (an amazing way to read comics if you have never explored this option) has it available. I am a little sad that this was not a title that I had been reading.Highly ... morerecommended!!!
review 2: When discussing trilogies I usually find (be it movies, novels or comic TPBs) that the second installment is the weakest. And, this is a place holder in many ways. We are introduced to Leo, the third and final Soviet sleeper agent that James Buchannan Barnes (aka Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier) trained while Barnes was under Soviet control.Spoilers......Lets get right down to it. What really matters is about the last 20% of the TPB when Leo's real motive is exposed. Leo wants to kidnap and brainwash the Black Widow whom Barnes also trained, and is now Barnes lover as a form of revenge.Yes the pacing is good. The action scenes are well handled, but this is very much a woman in refrigerators moment and I think the Widow deserves better. less
