Value for money: 4/5

Overall rating: 5/10

Angie’s Place was a recommendation from a friend of mine. Being one of the few breakfast restaurants in New Cairo, I came in with high expectations. I entered Angie’s Place and immediately felt a warm cosy feeling enhanced by its decor and comfortable-looking furniture. I was greeted by a waiter who asked me if I wanted to sit indoors or outdoors; since it was a beautiful day outside, I chose to sit outdoors, though I did wish to try out their comfortable sofas.

The menu is somewhat extensive containing a variety of breakfast options such as pancakes, waffles, eggs, french toast, crepes, soups, salads, sandwiches, and small bites. I started off with the Oven apple pancake (48 L.E.) with a side of sausages (15 L.E) and turkish coffee (18 L.E.). The cover however could be improved since it was basically a printed sheet of A4 paper.

I was brought the sausages minutes after ordering defeating the purpose of it being a ‘side’ dish. It would be unfair to refer to this as a ‘dish’, since it is a side; however the sausages were well below professional standards and presentation was nonexistent. The waiter brought me two pieces of sausage thrown onto a plate in front of me. The sausage itself was nothing special and a bit stringy. There was also one piece which was undercooked slightly. (3/10)

I was then brought the turkish coffee. The coffee had a smooth taste to it but it was a bit on the light side.

The apple pancake was one big fluffy cinnamon oven baked pancake topped with caramelized apples. The pancake tasted good showing some capable technical skills with the caramelized apples. The pancake achieved a noteworthy balance of sweet and savoury however it was a bit on the heavy side, some edges of the pancake were a bit too caramelized making it a bit too sweet at times. The caramelized apples were sautéd well throughout and the cinnamon balanced well with the apples. 6/10

Staff were well trained, professional, attentive but not intrusive. Overall the level of the meal was between 5/10 and 6/10, the bill coming at 103 L.E. was great value for money. The food is average if you’re looking for a quick place to have breakfast, however some inconsistencies were present.
