review 1: Very long book; the time period (1952-1975)it interested me, having lived through the politics and the protests. Also nice to meet some characters from Carter's 'Emperor of Ocean Park'. I did have a bit of trouble understanding what motivated some of the characters, and when I did figure it out, I'm not sure that I'm convinced. Can't say much more than that without spoiling it for others. I'm glad I read it, though.
review 2: As this book was a gift I would love to say I'd enjoyed it, but in fact it was a grind. An unrewarding grind at that. At the conclusion, you almost say "and....?". It was a struggle this and one that in the final analysis wasn't worth it for me I'm afraid. Perhaps the 'two decade' epic isn't a style for me, but I just felt continually fr

Another well-written book. Conspiracy theories, historical fiction from a great story-teller!
