review 1: At the beginning of the movie, a Series of Unfortunate Events, the narrator says something like this is not a story with happy elves. That line kept running through my head as I flew through the novel. Because this the same sort of thing. It's a fantastic story. In fact I'm finding it difficult to speak of its awesomeness without using expletives. But it is not a sweet novel with glowing, mushy feels. The heroine is not a winsome dove. I'm not sure if Bishop is a hero or not. I'm stopping before I reveal too much.
review 2: Found the topic fascinating, couldn't put the book down, read the entire thing in about five hours, but ultimately felt let down. I just really wanted Kick to be stronger, more capable, more Lisbeth Salander. The booked noted what an accom... moreplished marksman she was, then she missed the only important shot she took. She trained with different sorts of self-defense for ten years, yet couldn't defend herself. less
